Obtained from minerals like chalk, limestone & marble. Pure metal is produced by replacing the calcium in lime (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) with aluminium in hot, low pressure retorts. Tennessine was identified in 2010 by a team composed of Russian scientists at Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna and American scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

It was produced by the bombardment of berkelium with calcium.

Ununseptium was the temporary IUPAC systematic element name. Named after the region of Tennessee 20 1808 Sir Humphrey Davy England From the Latin word "calx" meaning "lime"
